They climbed the last of the mountain and came into the Thunderclap Monastery, the true one, and knelt before the at last — the master and his four disciples and the horse, fourteen years and ten thousand li delivered finally to the feet of the one who had set the errand going, and the Buddha received them with joy and honour and named their long labour and its worth.
And then he sent them to the treasury to collect the scriptures, in the care of his two chief attendants, the honoured disciples Ananda and Kasyapa, keepers of the sacred library, and here the book does the last and strangest thing it does, and it does it at the summit of the whole holy cosmos, on purpose.
